"FROZEN" CROSSES $500M WORLDWIDE
December 30, 2013
Frozen, Walt Disney Animation Studios' 53rd feature film, will cross $500M at the worldwide box office today, as well as the $250M marks both domestically and internationally. Capping a record-breaking year at the box office for The Walt Disney Studios, Frozen is the fourth 2013 Disney release to reach the $500M milestone, joining Marvel's Iron Man 3, Disney•Pixar's Monsters University, and Marvel's Thor: The Dark World.
Opening wide domestically November 27 and earning $93.6M in five days, Frozen set the record for the largest Thanksgiving debut in history and is the largest opening ever for a Walt Disney Animation Studios film. Already the second biggest Walt Disney Animation Studios film ever in North America (behind The Lion King), Frozen became the biggest WDAS release of all time in the UK/Ireland today. The film has yet to open in several international territories including China, Brazil, Argentina, Korea, and Japan.
Both a commercial and critical success, Frozen has been nominated for Best Animated Feature Film by the Golden Globes and the BFCA Critics' Choice Movie Awards and is up for 10 Annie Awards. It has been named one of the top 10 movies of the year by Time Magazine, US Weekly, and Yahoo! Movies.
